Background:	CDR1 has aspartic protease activity. Overexpression of CDR1 was shown to lead to salicylic acid (SA)-mediated disease resistance upon exposure to the pathogen Pseudomonas syringae. Moreover, overexpression of CDR1 led to the upregulation of two pathogenesis-related genes PR1 and PR2.
